The Coca-Cola Route
Climbing Kilimanjaro's Marangu Route remains a popular choice for trekkers seeking a shorter, challenging itinerary. Known as the only route with hut accommodation instead of camping, it follows the same scenic trail up and down, passing through rainforest, moorland, alpine desert, and onto the summit. Available in 5-day and 6-day itineraries, the 6-day option adds an extra acclimatization day for improved summit success. This straightforward Kilimanjaro trek is ideal for climbers with limited time seeking cosy huts and classic mountain scenery.
Prices listed by trek type and duration. Join a scheduled group departure, or begin your own private trek. Package rates are updated annually to reflect changes in Kilimanjaro National Park fees.

If this trip is a once-in-a-lifetime investment for you, private often protects what you cannot redo — how you feel on the mountain every day.
An indicative plan. Every climb is privately tailored to your party’s pace and acclimatisation profile.
Your Marangu Route climb begins with a transfer from Moshi to Marangu Gate. After park registration, trek through the lush rainforest zone of Mount Kilimanjaro, where towering trees, colorful birdlife, and colobus monkeys are often seen. Arrive at Mandara Hut surrounded by dense forest.
1,860 m → 2,700 m · 8 KM · 4 H
Tonight · Mandara Hut, A-frame wooden cabins.
Meals · Breakfast (Hotel) | Lunch | Dinner
Today the trail leaves the rainforest and climbs into open moorland. Giant lobelias and senecios dominate the landscape, while the jagged silhouette of Mawenzi Peak becomes more prominent. This is one of the most scenic trekking sections on the Marangu Route.
2,700 m → 3,720 m · 12 KM · 6 H
Tonight · Horombo Hut, the largest camp on the mountain.
Meals · Breakfast | Lunch | Dinner
An important acclimatization day on your Mount Kilimanjaro ascent. Hike up to Mawenzi ridge for wide views across the alpine landscape before descending back to Horombo Hut. This extra day helps improve acclimatization and supports stronger summit success rates.
3,720 m (acclimatisation day)
Tonight · Horombo Hut, second night.
Meals · Breakfast | Lunch | Dinner
Cross the vast alpine desert known as the Saddle, the high-altitude plateau between Mawenzi Peak and Kibo Peak. The route becomes more rugged and dramatic as you approach Kibo Hut, where you prepare for summit night.
3,720 m → 4,720 m · 9 KM · 6 H
Tonight · Kibo Hut, the highest hut. Cold and dry.
Meals · Breakfast | Lunch | Dinner
Begin your summit push just after midnight. Climb past Gilman's Point and continue along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m), the highest point in Africa. After sunrise on the summit, descend steadily to Horombo Hut for a well-earned recovery night.
4,720 m → 5,895 m → 3,720 m · 23 KM · 14 H
Tonight · Horombo Hut, recovery night.
Meals · Breakfast | Lunch | Dinner
Your final day on the Marangu Route follows a long descent through moorland and rainforest back to Marangu Gate. After collecting your summit certificate, transfer back to Moshi with unforgettable memories of your Mount Kilimanjaro climb.
