No crater view and no frills. It is community-owned — revenue goes to the Ngorongoro Pastoral Council — and buffalo and elephant walk the grounds most evenings.
For a six o'clock descent it is better placed than lodges twice the price further round the rim. Bring a fleece; it is cold at 2,300 metres.
